Meet Jared

We met Jared in 2009, three months before he started kindergarten. Jared is a little person, and his parents found the new school extremely interested in making a wide array of accommodations to facilitate his full participation.

Jared’s occupational and physical therapists identified numerous projects and collaborated with Adaptive Design throughout the summer, so that all 18 pieces were in place when school started. His adaptations include an insert to fit any auditorium seat, a cafeteria bench insert, chairs for the library and computer rooms, steps for the sinks and toilets in three lavatories, and steps for the kindergarten's new SMART™ Board. Jared’s mother Sharon and uncle Perry used class time at ADA to build steps for Jared to use in the newly renovated bathroom at home.

A fully-customized chair, with three built-in steps, puts Jared at an appropriate height for using the keyboard and viewing the monitor, and he can get in and out of the chair independently.

The Jared-specific bench adaptation can be placed at any table in the cafeteria. Jared tested all of his new equipment during a quiet morning in early September.
